I decided to draw Pom Poko for Ghibli Jam.
It’s not Studio Ghibli’s most famous or beloved film but it has some beautiful animation and imagery and is so much more than “the film with the racoon testicles in”.
An iconic television moment.
And then you get those commissions which are like “Hey Hamish, could you draw my lesbian best friends saving cats from a burning castle dressed as a knight an a wizard?”
2014 is the 60th Anniversary of Godzilla and Hollywood is celebrating by treating us to a brand new entry in the film series! I’m very excited about it!
But I think us fans should also do something for the big event! So I suggest making a zine of comics and art based around the King of Monsters.
Submissions can be anything as long as they are somehow related to the 30 Godzilla films, video games, comics, books, tv shows and movies set in the shared Toho universe (Mothra, Rodan, etc).
I love all kaiju but this zine is strictly about Godzilla and his universe. Maybe one day I’ll do a more general zine where we can have artwork of Gamera, Super Sentai and Ultraman… but for now, we’re sticking with Big G.
The deadline for entries is APRIL 1ST! This allows me to get the zine printed and ready in time for May and the release of the new film! The zine will be printed and sold at conventions and I’ll try and get all the included collaborators some money back - however, initially all profit from the zine will be used to make back the printing cost.
This is a curated zine meaning not all entries will be included. I will be deciding one which entries are included and the reason will always be for the benefit of the zine and its aesthetics. All artistic abilities are allowed but depending on how popular this gets, I will be a little bit of a bastard and have to be picky. I’ve done enough projects where entires have been super open to know that it reeeeeally doesn’t work.
- Colour images are encouraged, but black and white is fine
- Single page size: 5.8 x 8.3 in
- Double page spread size: 8.3 x 11.7 in
- Resolution: 300 DPI
- File type preferences: .TIFF’s are preferable, but .JPEG’s are acceptable
You can submit artwork you’ve already done as long as it is high res and fulfils these requirements - although new art is encouraged!
Please send all entries to firstname.lastname@example.org and include your full name and a link to your art blog / website.
Good luck, have fun and get
COMMISSIONS ARE OPEN!
Here we are again! I am currently asking for commissions which have been closed for almost half a year! They’re also at my lowest prices (all prices are marked in American dollars).
I can draw you, your characters, your favourite fictional characters or anything you like! Couples and family portraits (with pets included for free!) are also very popular.
- Black and White ($25 plus $20 for every additional character)
- Full Colour ($45 plus $40 for every additional character)
- Character and Background ($75 plus $40 for every additional character)
- BIG STUFF including book covers, band posters, big family portraits, etc. ($100 and/or negotiations).
All commissions will be paid for through PayPal. If you’re interested send me an email at
Commissions will be delivered through high-resolution JPEGs and a printable PDFs. Physical copies of the prints can also be sent at an additional cost depending on location.
I have drawn many commissions that don’t neatly fit into one of the above categories including comics, animated gifs, logos and avatars/icons - anything can be negotiated.
